Description: This session is an introduction to Google Apps for Education as it is used through in the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. Want to learn how this technology platform can work in your classroom to enhance your teaching practices and student learning? This optional institute will start with the basics on how to setup your account and build your skills with using Classroom, Drive, Docs, Chrome and the other core applications. The initial focus is on developing your skills using the applications and techniques. Next you will explore methods to work with students and teachers and move towards advanced tools and tricks to save time and frustration with digital work.

Duration: 15 hours  

Time:     Day 1 & 2 9 a.m. -Noon and 1:00 - 4 pm  

               Day 3 9 a.m. - Noon

Location: S.D. Cook, Corner Brook

Date: July 20-22, 2015

Expenses: Participants traveling from outside the local site area will be partially responsible for travel, lodging and meals. Details on the travel subsidy will be provided as soon as available


IT Equipment: All required IT equipment will be provided onsite

Personal IT Devices: Personal laptops (PC or Mac), iPads, Androids, or Chromebooks are permitted, but not required.

Day 2 - Focus on integrating skills and enhancing your workflow

  • distributing and collecting student work

  • formative feedback through text, voice comments and auto-corrected quizzes

  • communicating with parents/students/staff

  • managing a mixture of school and personal, mobile and fixed location devices

  • mobile app integration

  • other integration and workflow examples as determined by the local facilitators

Day 3 - Focus on cross-site collaboration and sharing

  • collaboration between schools

  • reflection on needs then small groups with facilitator support

  • sharing and planning your next steps
